This term we have been taking part in an exciting new project called Spawn to be Wild, which has been devised by the Avon Wildlife Trust. Our school has been chosen as it is close to the Congresbury Yeo, a river which is particularly suited to eels.
Anna Stevens, from Avon Wildlife Trust, launched the project by giving us an introduction to the eel and its extraordinary life cycle; explaining the challenges it faces in the modern world and setting up a tank of elvers.
We have been busy feeding, cleaning and observing the eels, noticing any changes that occur and looking for patterns of behaviour.

On Friday 16th May we released the eels into Blagdon reservoir.
First we had to catch the eels to take with us to Blagdon.
When releasing the elvers we gently lowered them into the water and held them there until they swam away.
